Weightlifting & Powerlifting

At Bromsgrove Barbell Club we coach technique on the Olympic lifts and power lifts first and foremost to ensure safety of our athletes, only when they can demonstrate correct technique do we allow them to start adding sufficient weight to the bar.

Whether you are an established weightlifter or an aspiring one, at Bromsgrove Barbell Club we can help to take you to the next level

  • Here are some quick tips to get the most out of your lifts

At Bromsgrove Barbell Club we recommend that aspiring weightlifters work more on their hip drive technique when Olympic lifting. To be good at Olympic weightlifting, you have to hit the full extension of the hips, knees and ankles

  • Break down the technique into individual pulls.
  • Squat more often and work the depth of the squat
  • Get used to the rack position and utilise the front squat for Olympic lifting and the back squat for powerlifting.
  • Keep the bar close to your body during the first and second pull of the Olympic lifts and in the deadlift.
  • Practise, practise, practise which will give you confidence to get under the bar.
  • Be patient.

At Bromsgrove Barbell Club we have 2 dedicated sessions every week at A.P.T plus Open Gym sessions where you are encouraged to come in and practise the lifts.
