Sports Relief Charity Event

News

It’s been over 12 months since we last did a fundraising event at A.P.T so Sports Relief seemed like a great theme to raise some funds for children in need of help in the UK and abroad.

Our past 2 fundraising events, first to raise funds for ex A.P.T athlete and  Rio  ParaOlympic Qualified athlete Lauren Rowles and our second event in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and LFBC both raised £500.00.

Our Sports Relief event due to take place tomorrow 18th March at 7.00 – 9.00pm at the facility has already, at the time of writing this, raised £510.00 with more pledged already looking like we could break £600.00.

We have a team of 12 Members led by myself ( Mark ) who will be undertaking a 100 minute team non stop circuit totalling 2000 repetitions each which will then be topped off by all of us doing 16 kettlebell swings together to give a 2016 repetition total.  Some of the circuit stations will be bodyweight moves and some will be weighted moves.  When you consider that a football match is 90 minutes long with a 15 minute halftime, it helps to put into perspective the task ahead.

If you usually pick up the phone and donate on TV to this worthwhile charity, why not consider sponsoring us on our marathon workout instead, it would be very much appreciated, just clink the link below to go straight to our giving page .

A.P.T Facility is 3 Years Old Today

News

Well, each month and year seems to fly by but it seems soooo long ago when we 1st opened the doors to the A.P.T facility and oh how things have changed in the past 3 years.

Before APT moved in...

Before APT moved in…

This is what I was faced with on the day that I signed the lease, I only had a small handful of PT clients and a small bootcamp of 14 year old rugby players but I also had vision and determination.

After a lot of dirty hard work to clean the place up and turn it into a useable space we opened the doors with a new transformation group lined up and I had signed up a couple more clients but we had very little in the facility to work with. IMAG0245

Over the past 3 years we have steadily increased the client base to now include group training programs from Monday – Saturday with 8 sessions taking place over the course of the week. Along side these group programs, we also run 1-1 PT sessions in the morning and late afternoons before the group sessions start. Over the course of the past three years I have been fortunate enough to personally coach a professional footballer, a Bedford Blues and England age group rugby player, a World Champion Masters long jumper, a British and Commonwealth Masters Judo Champion, an England netball player, a wheelchair athlete who has qualified to compete at the Rio 2016 Paralympics and a couple of rugby teams, these are all elite level athletes that have/do trust me completely to program their strength and conditioning work to keep them improving/ winning/ injury free.

One of the other major things that we have implemented over the past 12 months is our A.P.T Youth Development Program which started in January of this year working with Catshill Middle School and has now grown to  include Parkside Middle School and Aston Fields Middle School with others in the pipeline.

The facility has undergone a total evolution recently with a new colour scheme, more investment in equipment and a better overall experience for our members.

What Have We Been Up To ?

News

Well with the technical problems that we have had with our website, it has been over six months since I let everyone know what we have been doing here at A.P.T.

Firstly, we have been working with more athletes. Early in the summer we started working with England Netballer Danielle Jordan-Taft following her ACL knee surgery which she picked up on England duty in South Africa. Danielle has been working extremely hard 3 times per week and is now stronger and fitter than ever.

Also during the summer we started working with Five Ways OE RFC 1st XV after they had a pretty poor season last year winning only 1 league match. They have been training here weekly and are now 5 or 6 weeks into the new season and are unbeaten so far scoring over 200 points and conceding only 36 so far.

We continue to work with ex England u16 Rugby player Charley Robinson who has now been made captain of Bedford Blues Academy.  Judo Champ Clive Biggs has also recently won his 7th British Masters Judo Title.

Two former clients of A.P.T have also recently hit the headlines worth mentioning Jo Frost has won the masters World Long Jump also smashing the long standing British record in the process and Lauren Rowles has switched from wheelchair racing to rowing and has qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympics in the mixed double scull rowing event.

Other news  around A.P.T, we have now added more group training programs to our schedule as we grow our community with new programs such as CombatFit on Tuesdays at 6.30pm which is a mixture of boxing and martial arts training focussing on technique and combination work.  Tuesday at 7.30pm sees another  new program, EliteFit which is a mixture of training styles such as bodyweight, kettlebell, weight training and metabolic conditioning put together to give a kick ass workout.

We have bought back Kettlebells on Wednesdays at 6.30pm which is followed as always by Afterburn, our popular circuit session. Thursday at 7.30pm we are starting a brand new group program CoreFit, This was popular when we last ran it last year and is run by  coach Dean Willis.

Friday morning at 9.30am we have a brand new group session Bodyblast specifically but not exclusively for ladies that may have dropped their children off at school or nursery and want to get a quick but intense exercise session in early.  Saturday Shred continues as a HIIT session at 10.00am which is a great kick start for the weekend. Our ladies only lifting and strength training group on Mondays “Pretty Strong” has now become our signature ladies program due to its ongoing success.

Something that we are now fully involved in is our A.P.T YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. This started with Catshill Middle School back in January and since September has now expanded to Parkside Middle and Aston Fields Middle with North Bromsgrove High about to join us too. This gives us access to train upto 80 children each week allowing them to experience a scaled back version of what we provide in the facility.

Finally for now, we have just undergone a full refurbishment of the facility with a new grey and green colour scheme, new astroturf and signage giving a full corporate identity to the facility which we hope will make the whole A.P.T experience that much better. More photos and vrecent

10 Reasons to join A.P.T

News

Here are 10 reasons why YOU should join us at Athletic Performance Training if you haven’t already with the same 10 reasons why our current members LOVE A.P.T.

In no particular order…………….

1)  We know our clients…. At A.P.T, you are not just another number, we know everyone by name and we actually care that you are there.

2) We are friendly…….. There is nothing intimidating about A.P.T, you will be greeted with a smile and a handshake, we don’t accept egos so no matter where you start your journey with us from, you will be made welcome.

3) We only work with committed individuals…….. Not everyone that comes through our doors are accepted as members, as I said above, no egos, no knowitalls. By you being surrounded with committed individuals in our facility, you will be pushed to work harder.

4) We have a fantastic community of likeminded members who enjoy spending their training time together and who quickly become friends and support and encourage each other.

5) We get results……. Our whole business is results based so by you getting the results that you want and smashing goals that we set, you will be happy to refer and recommend.

6) We coach everyone……. at most gyms when you join, you will get an induction and then be left to just get on with it. Not at A.P.T.  We get our results with people that we take the time to get to know by coaching them in either PT sessions or during our small group programs. If we see someone doing a movement with bad form or struggling during a group session, we take the time to correct them, not just let them continue.

7) We program our PT sessions for each individual according to their goals…. we don’t just write a generic program for everyone to do.

8) We provide excellent value…….. we believe that the value that we provide with our knowledge, coaching, community, facility, equipment and the results that we get far outweigh the other options.

9) We are the trusted training facility and coaches to elite sports people…….. PT clients past and present include British and Commonwealth Masters Judo Champion, England Netballer, World Masters Long Jump Champion, Rio 2016 Qualified Paralympic rower, England junior Rugby Player, Professional Footballer. We also work with amateur sports teams including athletics teams, rugby teams football teams etc.

10) We continue to invest in our own education and the facility………  Any coach that doesn’t invest heavily in their own education on a regular basis quickly becomes an outdated dinosaur, being “good enough” is unacceptable to me. We also invest in the facility regularly, whether in equipment or making the actual facility better ( we have already facelifted the facility twice in under 3 years, with another face lift planned to happen soon)

If you wish to find out more about joining our fantastic community or getting coaching for your team, contact Mark at athlete.p.t@btinternet.com

What’s Coming in 2015……….

News

Hey guys n gals,

This year, although I have been busy behind the scenes here at A.P.T, I haven’t done anywhere near enough blog posts to keep you up to date with what’s happening and what to expect in the near future, so with that in mind, here is a peek into what to expect from the team here at A.P.T in 2015

2015 is set up as the GAMECHANGER for the athletes and members of A.P.T

Monday 5th January will kickstart the new year program and on that very first day we will have the start of our brand new January Jeans ladies training program. A short course designed especially to get you ladies back into those too tight jeans after the excesses of the party season in double quick time. ( Limited places are still available on this )

We will be looking to open up more semi personal training groups and more large group training programs. What does this mean for you?   Well firstly and most importantly these semi personal programs will enable us to get you working in small groups of up to 6 with  1 coach so that you still get the personal touch with each session but as you are working in small groups, you benefit from better results, more banter, more competition and teamwork. Finally, it gives you the opportunity to experience personal training with friends or likeminded individuals that will quickly become new friends and will reduce your costs too.

Large group training ( up to 20 per group ) will also continue at the facility with myself and the other coaches Jimmy, Dean and Chris opening up new slots and new programs. There will be NO MORE CLASSES , instead these will be replaced by NEW TRAINING PROGRAMS. Each program will last for between 4 – 12 weeks and will be progressive to help you achieve better results with Wednesday circuits now changing its name to AFTERBURN.

One of the brand new programs I will be running will be “FIT MOMS” starting in January on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9.30am. This will be the first time that I have run daytime large group sessions and they are intended for moms with young children who drop their kids off at school/ nursery/ or playgroup and find themselves just running around after others. This is time for young moms to change their lives and put themselves first for a while with a 45 minute workout to uplift and energise them for the day ahead.

I will also be introducing a monthly fee which has been trialled by my PT clients but will include all sessions under one fee so the more you train, the cheaper it will be. The idea behind this is to build more of a community feel amongst you and for you to make new friends and training partners. There are also plans for open gym sessions at set times daily which will also be included in your fee.

So, you have now seen some of the planned changes that we are making to make YOUR facility better for 2015 but if you have any ideas of what you would like to see or do, then PLEASE let us know.

Clive retains the British Championship Title

News

A.P.T athlete Clive Biggs has defied all the odds to once again win the British Masters Judo Championship u66kg title.

On the 18th October 2013 Clive underwent major knee surgery for a ruptured ACL , an injury that has ended many a professional sportsman’s career, indeed, that was the same injury that stopped me from playing rugby.

However, Clive always had other ideas and never let it become a reason for quitting. With a combination of physiotherapy and rehab at the A.P.T Facility followed by a periodised training schedule including swimming, weights, bodyweight training and plyometrics, Clive has come back stronger, fitter and more powerful than ever before at the ripe young age of 57.

Fast forward from the surgery exactly 12 months to the very date and Clive is standing on the edge of the judo mat about to attempt to regain the title that he wasn’t able to defend the previous year.

A mixture of fitness, experience and dogged determination saw him win the title to become the most prolific u66kg masters judoka of this century.

I was by his side when he won and to be honest, I’m in awe of his drive to continue to compete at the highest level and I’m also extremely proud to have had the opportunity to be involved in working with Clive on a weekly basis to enable him to continue to be the best of the best.

List of achievements at u66kg

2002 – World Masters Individual Bronze

2003 – British Masters Champion

2005 – British Masters Champion

2006 – Commonwealth Masters Bronze

2007 – World Masters Team GB Silver

2009 – World Masters Team GB Gold

2010 – World Masters Team GB Silver and Bronze

2011 – British Masters Champion

2012 – Commonwealth Masters Champion – British Masters Champion

2014 – British Masters Champion

Charity Workout……… Coming Soon

News

To help mark the 2nd anniversary of the opening of the facility, we have decided to hold a big charity workout.

This will take place on Saturday 15th November between 10.00am – 12.00pm.

The idea is that the 4 coaches will each lead 2 x 15 minute mini workouts over the 2 hours with the other coaches assisting participants with technique and motivation. This will enable anyone regardless of ability, age or fitness level to join in the workout fun and raise funds for our 2 chosen charities.

The charities that we have decided to support for this are the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer. We will not be charging a fee or asking for sponsorship, we only ask that you make a donation of your choice ( of course if you want to raise funds by sponsorship, that is cool with us ).

Please join us and bring along friends and family to join in the fun and raise as much as possible for these fantastic charities. You don’t need to be a member of A.P.T to come along, in fact we welcome as many new faces as possible so even if you currently go to a bootcamp, or another gym please just come and train for this one morning at A.P.T

There is no pressure to train for the full 2 hours, just 15 minutes is fine but you are more than welcome to stay as long as you wish. If we get as many participants as I hope, then we would switch things around so that you all get chance to get on the floor for some training and I’m also more than happy to keep going past the 2 hours if demand is there.

The address is Athletic Performance Training, Unit 4, Fairfield Court, Stourbridge Road, Bromsgrove, B61 9 NJ  just 3 minutes from M5 Junction 4 so easily assessable from Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Stourbridge, Hagley, Clent etc

See you there
